Scared of Freeways?

Driving on freeways or highways is actually the most commonly feared of all driving situations. A lot of drivers quote several reasons like they find it difficult to merge into highways or freeways, they need to go at fast speeds, but out of all the drivers who were quoted, the sense or feeling of being trapped in a road rage is their main concern when traversing freeways.

Then again, there is still hope for you. There are a couple of things that you can do to overcome fear of driving on freeways. When merging into highways or freeways, first thing you need to do is to try and estimate the speed of the freeway traffic.

Once you have the traffic speed determined, give a signal well in advance so you let the other motorists know that you are going to merge into the highway. Climb on the ramp and move along in accordance with the traffic speed.

As a tip, never ever slow down when you reach the ramp end (not unless the traffic also slows down though). Quickly look for a gap, make another glance to check for blind spots and for oncoming cars and move in quickly if there is an empty gap and if things are clear.

More importantly, never hesitate when on the road. The feeling of hesitation is one major cause of panic attacks while driving. The instance you see that it is safe to go, then go for it! Another thing, if you are not accustomed to driving fast, do not force yourself to.

Nobody said that you should drive as fast as you can when navigating on freeways. If you want to travel on your own pacing, then stay on the right lane. You must also make it a point that you look around your surroundings while driving.

Most drivers are focused mainly on what is ahead of them and that is actually wrong. That is why you have a rear-view mirror and side-mirrors in the first place, so use them.
